Croeso! / Welcome!

Cwm yr Afon (which means Valley of the River) is a former quarryman’s cottage built in the 19th century. It has been renovated to a high standard and retains many original features.

The self catering cottage has stunning views back and front. It's in a superb location to explore the mountains, coast and all that North Wales has to offer. It's ideal for walkers, cyclists, canoeists, fishermen, train enthusiasts and anyone who wants to unwind in a relaxing cottage.

We provide the bedding and towels, all you need to do is unpack and start your break in our lovely cottage. On your arrival we have complimentary tea, coffee, milk and sugar. There is also a fresh homemade Bara Brith (Fruit Cake) for you to enjoy. Free Wi-fi also available.

An initial supply of logs will be supplied for you which will be sufficient for the first night or two. If you need any more logs, Emma and Menno in the tea rooms, 2 doors up will be willing to sell further supplies of seasoned Logs and kindling to you, these will be better quality than those sold in garages!

Sorry no pets and no smoking inside the cottage.

The accommodation comprises of a beamed Lounge/Diner with an inglenook fireplace with granite lintel. The slate hearth houses a wood burning stove. It has a comfortable leather sofa and leather easy chair. It has a Freesat TV with built in DVD player and CD player with i-pod docking station. The dining table seats 4 people.

The beamed country pine kitchen has all modern appliances. There is a washer/dryer, gas hob and electric cooker, microwave oven, toaster, kettle, fridge and countertop freezer. There is a combi boiler for heating and hot water.

The modern bathroom has WC, sink and a bath with a shower.

Bedroom one has views of the River Gwyrfai and Rhyd Ddu forest. It has a double bed and a pine tallboy with hanging space and drawer storage. It has bedside shelves housing lamps.

Bedroom two has views of Snowdon and the surrounding hills. It has two single beds and a bedside cabinet with a lamp.

Bedroom three has been converted to a changing room. It has a wardrobe, chest of drawers with mirror and stool. This bedroom has room for a travel cot.

The bedrooms original pine floors and doors have been exposed and so has the original pine boards on the ceiling and walls.

The enclosed garden has a washing line, bike store, brick built barbeque and hardwood table and chairs. The decked area at the bottom of the garden overlooks the River Gwyrfai where there is an abundance of wildlife. We’re very fortunate to have pipistrelle bats living near the garden. The bats are nocturnal and come out at night to hunt for insects depending on the time of year. From the kitchen window you can see garden birds feeding from the feeders. We’ve seen these birds so far Great Tit, Blue Tit, Coal Tit, Robin, Sparrow, Nuthatch, Wren, Blackbird, Thrush, Jay, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Siskin, Great Spotted Woodpecker and even a Kingfisher on the river.
